Ken Sain has been appointed CEO of Panasonic Avionics, a leading US-based supplier of inflight entertainment (and a subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation). Sain was formerly an executive at Boeing and a principal at management consulting firm A.T. Kearney.
Panasonic Avionics was founded in 1979, and delivers inflight entertainment and communications systems to aviation firms across the world. The Lake Forest, CA–based firm has more than 5,000 employees across 80 global offices.
Ken Sain replaces Hideo Nakano, who served as CEO since 2017. Nakano will remain at the firm in the role of “special advisor.”
Sain spent the last 14 years at Boeing, working in the areas of strategy, technical engineering services, and digital solutions. His most recent role was VP of digital solutions and analytics at Boeing Global Services – which provides service solutions in engineering, supply chain, digital and analytics, and training and professional services to commercial and government customers. In the role, he oversaw Boeing’s customer-facing digital solutions portfolio, launching new products and cloud-based solutions for airline and business aviation customers. Sain was responsible for a $1 billion digital solution portfolio and 3,500 employees.
Before that, he was COO of Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen, a software company which provides navigational information, operations planning tools, and flight planning products and software. Prior to that, he was managing director of flight optimization solutions and managing director of professional services at Boeing. In the latter role, he led a team of more than 500 in the delivery of aviation-focused management consulting, solution deployment, and post-production support.
Before his time at Boeing, Sain was a principal at A.T. Kearney, where he spent more than 10 years specializing in strategy and operations for airlines, airline alliances, and travel technology providers.
He holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern University.
"We are excited to welcome Ken to the Panasonic team," said Michael Moskowitz, chairman and CEO of Panasonic Corporation of North America, the parent company of Panasonic Avionics. "His entrepreneurial spirit and proven track record in aviation will undoubtedly accelerate Panasonic's customer-centric innovation and the digital transformation journeys of its airline customers."
Sain commented, “Panasonic Avionics created the aviation industry's first inflight entertainment solution 40 years ago and became the market leader through continuous innovation. I'm both honored and excited to join the talented Panasonic team to build upon this success and redefine the passenger experience of the future with our airline customers.”
