Makeshift arms factory busted in Arunachal Pradesh, 2 arrested - EastMojo

Sain said that during interrogation, he broke down and led the team to his makeshift arms factory in his village. "We recovered two more weapons along with several live rounds and arrested one of his accomplices Sabal Taid, his brother,” he added.

"A diary has been recovered from the possession of the accused which reveals that he has manufactured and sold around 20 guns till date out of which four have been recovered," said Sain, adding, “Operations are on to recover the remaining weapons and identify and arrest the buyers of those arms.”

Sain said, "As of now, a total of two arrests have been made in the case, with recovery of one pistol, three 12 bore guns and eight live cartridges, besides tools and equipment used for the manufacturing of illegal weapons."

"This is the same police team which in the past had put valiant efforts to nab underground elements and recovery of several automatic and semi automatic weapons in the region leading to a halt of movement of UG elements in the area," added Sain. The team consisted of deputy superintendent of police (HQ) Ringu Ngupok, assistant commandant of 186 battalion CRPF Pawan Kumar, reserve inspector RK Mishra, officer-in-charge of Shantipur check gate Sushant Saurabh Jha, company commandant of D-Coy of 5th IRBn Raju Tayeng, sub-inspector Subhash Medhi, among others.

The development comes at a time when several criminal activities, including dacoity have taken place in the neighbouring districts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh in Assam in the past six months and use of arms were a prominent feature in those incidents.

Whether these weapons made way into Assam and were used in incidents in Assam is something which needs to be investigated.
