Hamilton Holdings signs with Sain-Gobain to set up Construction AM Hub in Singapore - 3DPMN

Singapore-based construction 3D printing company Hamilton Holdings has teamed up with Ang Cheng Guan Construction (ACG) and Saint-Gobain to establish Hamilton Labs Additive Manufacturing & Robotics Hub and to drive 3D concrete printing and digital construction in Singapore. The Hub will see the deployment of robotics, automation technologies and advanced manufacturing methodologies.

In the collaboration, Saint-Gobain will take on the role of exclusive materials supply and R&D innovations in the additive manufacturing space. Saint-Gobain’s well-established track record in building materials make them an ideal partner in the Hub. Ang Cheng Guan Construction brings with them a wide spectrum of building and construction experiences as well as a pipeline of developments that are designed to adopt additive manufacturing methodologies.

Hamilton Labs HubSeparate MOUs have been signed last week by Hamilton Holdings, Saint-Gobain and ACG, with the Hub as an eco-system for academic research, industrial, and government entities to work together to encourage the growth in building and construction technology innovations and to promote the adoption of additive manufacturing methodologies in ASEAN and the Asia Pacific region.

“Conventional building design and construction methodologies are ripe for disruption. The Hub will lead the way to drive this forward through 3D printing, automation and robotics, coupled with constant innovations in sustainable materials. With a pipeline of developments which embrace 3D printing from ACG, we expect the pace of disruption and progress towards increased sustainability in the building and construction spaces will hasten.”, Hamilton Holdings GM Willy Ng said. Referring to SMEs in the building and construction spaces, “Let the Hub start you off and together on the journey towards 3D printing and sustainability in building and construction.”.

The Hub’s goals are in line with the Government’s commitment to supporting Singapore companies in adopting advanced manufacturing technologies and methodologies and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2020 plan. Furthermore, working closely with Singapore’s National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC), led by NTUitive, the Hub will lead a robust innovation and advanced manufacturing ecosystem to support developments in construction 3D printing.

The Hamilton Labs Hub

Modelled after the industrial concrete 3D printing facility in Eindhoven, Netherlands, which is a collaboration between BAM Infra, Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix, Bekaert, Witteveen+Bos, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), and Van Wijnen, the Hub would seek to achieve the following:

1. The first in Asia to deploy technologies and methodologies in the 3D concrete printing field, embracing DfMA and DfAM platforms.

2. Work with local construction companies, SMEs, IHLs as well as government bodies to promote a culture of 3D printing in the construction sector. The Hub will also work with regulatory bodies to update building codes related to 3D-printed buildings and structures.

3. Examine 3D-printed concrete buildings and structures using Building Information Modeling (BIM), a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility, together with other digital tools for cost-benefit analysis. With the partners, the Hub aims to perform strategic analysis of the capabilities of 3D concrete printing and digitally driven construction methodologies.

4. The Hub will also embark on autonomous building and construction vehicles and equipment design and integration to further automate the construction processes through machine learning, AI
