KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is constantly monitoring and assessing the health level at all educational institutions, especially at schools, following the reported influenza cases in the country.
In a statement today MOE said as of Jan 14, it had received reports that two classrooms at SJKC Li Hwa in Penang had been ordered to close from Jan 7 until 19, along with Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan, Perak, from Jan 11 to 19.
“The decision (to temporarily close the classrooms and the school) was made after getting views from the respective district health offices.
“MOE also received reports on slight increase in cases at some schools in Selangor, Penang and Johor,” the statement read.
The ministry said teachers at schools would be monitoring the situation and would inform parents on reports of any infection. “Subsequently, the parents or guardians can take the students to the nearest clinic or hospital for immediate treatment.”
In the statement, the ministry called on parents not to send their children with influenza-like illness (ILI) to school or take them to crowded places.
“Should they need to go out, it is best that they wear masks.
“Students are also reminded to practice good hygiene by washing their hands with clean water and soap, or applying hand sanitiser, as well as adopting good manners when coughing.”
